Safeguarding

Commitment to Safeguarding

At Simon Coope Karate School, we are deeply committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all our students. Safeguarding is at the heart of our operations, and we take our responsibility to protect our students—especially minors—very seriously. As martial arts instructors, we recognise the importance of not only teaching physical skills but also fostering an atmosphere where respect, trust, and safety are paramount.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive space where everyone feels valued and protected. Our commitment extends to ensuring that our students, regardless of their background or ability, can train with confidence, knowing that their safety and well-being are our priority. Through robust safeguarding practices, we aim to provide the highest standard of care and to continually promote a positive and secure environment for all involved in the club.

Club Safeguarding Policies

To uphold our commitment to safeguarding, Simon Coope Karate School has put several key policies and practices in place:

  • DBS Checks: All instructors, staff, and volunteers undergo thorough Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks to ensure that only suitable individuals are entrusted with the care of our students. This includes regular updates to ensure continued safety.
  • Safeguarding Training: We ensure that all staff and instructors receive up-to-date safeguarding training in line with the latest guidelines from the English Karate Federation (EKF). This training equips them to identify and respond to any safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly and appropriately.
  • First Aid Training: Every instructor and staff member is trained in first aid to respond to any medical emergencies that may arise during training sessions. We are committed to keeping all our staff prepared to handle unexpected situations safely and effectively.
  • Adherence to EKF Safeguarding Measures: Our safeguarding practices are aligned with the policies and recommendations set forth by the English Karate Federation to ensure we meet the national standards for child protection and safeguarding within martial arts.
  • Reporting Concerns or Incidents: We have a clear procedure for reporting safeguarding concerns or incidents. All concerns are taken seriously and will be investigated in a prompt, confidential, and impartial manner. Our safeguarding officer is always available to listen to students, parents, and staff if they have any concerns. We encourage open communication to ensure a quick resolution to any issues that may arise.

Resources and Support for Parents and Students

Guidance for Students on Staying Safe and Reporting Concerns:

We provide students with guidance on how to stay safe both inside and outside of the dojo. This includes encouraging respectful behaviour, personal boundaries, and fostering an environment where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns. Students are taught that they can approach any instructor or staff member if they feel unsafe or have concerns.

External Safeguarding Resources:

We also provide students and parents with information on external safeguarding resources. This includes contact details for child protection services, the NSPCC, and other organizations that offer support and advice. We believe that safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and we encourage students and parents to reach out for help whenever needed.

Parental Involvement and Information:

We value the involvement of parents in maintaining a safe environment for our students. Parents are kept informed about our safeguarding policies and any updates or changes to them. We encourage parents to regularly communicate with us about their child’s safety and well-being.

At Simon Coope Karate Schools, we believe in working together with parents to create the safest possible training environment for every student. By fostering open communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to safeguarding, we can ensure that all students can train, grow, and thrive safely.
